"The Golden Age of Radio" is broadcast every Sunday at 8:30 p.m. Central on the Internet at www.kzqx.com, in Longview over 101.9 FM radio, in Kilgore at 105.3 FM, and in Chalk Hill-Lake Cherokee at 104.7 FM. The program is an ongoing project of the video technology and broadcast journalism classes of Carthage High School as part of their study of radio history and audio production. It is a non-profit, educational project.

CHS-TV, the video technology and broadcast journalism department of Carthage High School, will present their 144th edition of "The Golden Age of Radio" on Sunday, July 15. The program features a half hour of vintage music and other "old time radio" sounds plus a half-hour of radio comedy.

Student announcers will be Larkin Ritter, Cory White, Lucas Tate, Kenya Bowen, Lawsen Sharpe, Coleman Hales, Kyle Cage and Taylor Kidd. They will introduce music by Coleman Hawkins, Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby, the Sons of the Pioneers and Artie Shaw. There will also be historic clips featuring Smokey the Bear, Ronald Reagan (not yet the President of the United States), comedians Burns and Allen, Bob Hope, and more.

The second half-hour of the show features a unique radio comedy show from 1952. "I Love Lucy," starring Lucille Ball and husband Desi Arnaz, remains the single most successful situation comedy in the history of television, being still rerun over a half-century after it premiered on CBS. For a short time, a radio counterpart was produced, and CHS-TV is happy to have located a rare example of this version of the show. Student Larkin Ritter will introduce it to the listening audience in a humorous manner befitting the program.

"The Golden Age of Radio" is part of the Carthage High School video technology and broadcast journalism classes' study of the history of broadcasting. The one-hour program can be heard via the Internet Sunday at 8:30 p.m. at www.kzqx.com. It is also available on FM radio in these cities: Chalk Hill-Lake Cherokee (104.7 FM), Longview (101.9 FM) and Kilgore (105.3 FM).
